Practical Effects With a 1/32nd Scale WWII Gato Class Submarine
Here is another Practical Effects speculation demonstration video done with Coliseum Pictures utilizing the dry for wet technique.
Rieth Creations built, detailed, weathered and rigged the 1/32nd scale fiberglass submarine to hang from thin metal wires. The room was filled with fog. The footage was captured with a computer motion-controlled camera. CGI was used at the end for a water distortion effect from the turning propellers controlled by stepper motors.
It is amazing that a 10 foot long static model can convey emotion with movie magic using lighting, camera motion, sound effects and music.
I edited the logo at the end to the National World War II Museum from the original spec logo.
